Women's Giving Circle
The University of Missouri-St. Louis Women’s Giving Circle raises awareness for and supports the university’s programs that educate women to become effective leaders, and provide them with the skills necessary to succeed in their careers, their communities and beyond.
Members of the UMSL Women’s Giving Circle are part of a dynamic community who believe in the impact of collective philanthropy and are committed to building the next generation of women leaders.
How the Giving Circle Works
Each member makes an annual gift to create a large grant pool. Funds from the Giving Circle are distributed through a grant application process open to faculty, staff and student organizations.
Members of the Giving Circle have the opportunity to vote and select the programs that will receive grant funding. Votes are weighted according to membership levels.
Full Membership requires a minimum annual commitment of $1,000. At this level, members are entitled to one vote. (Gifts at this level will be recognized in the Pierre Laclede Society.)
Partial Membership requires a minimum annual commitment of $500. At this level, members are entitled to the equivalent of 50% of a vote.
Gifts received by June 30 qualify for membership and participation in the granting process. Membership is based on the university’s fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
Each spring, requests for grant applications are sent to the UMSL community.
Volunteer members review proposals in May.
In July, all members vote to select grant recipients.
Each year, Giving Circle members are invited to hear about the impact of their gifts, as well as participate in additional programming.
